First of all, it's really important that you define your niche. Yes, you have to know in your mind the niche you are trying to crack in to. The reason we are making such a point about it is that you have to understand a niche and the people in it. Each niche has specific language that must be used when talking to them. It is easy to understand all these points, but people are often too lazy to take the time to really learn about their markets. You have to make sure a market is worth your time, and then you really zero in on them and learn about them.

If you are marketing to bass fisherman, then you can expand into boats, possibly hunting, clothing, camping equipment - you see what we mean? The ones who like "rock music" can be one sub-niche and the ones that like "rap music" could be another niche. You have to figure out how to make the transition, but that is really not very hard to do; you can expand your marketing very easily.
You need to be able to communicate with your target audience in the language they use. In many respects you really have to get inside their minds and know where they are coming from. Each niche market requires solutions to their problems that are unique to them. No matter who is in your niche, when you seem like you are one of them, they then will become much more receptive to what you have to say. That is an underlying principle regardless of your market. If you fail to apply this effectively, chances are that your prospects may end up with your competitors, something which you definitely don't want.
